Importing materials
To add a new material to Unreal Tournament 3 (UT3) using UnrealEd (the UT3 Unreal Editor), follow these steps:
1. Import Your Textures
• Open the Generic Browser window in UnrealEd. • Go to File > Import to load your diffuse map, normal map, or other textures into your package and group.
2. Create the Material
• In the Generic Browser Window, click on the Generic tab. • Right-click anywhere in the right-hand empty panel and select New Material. • Fill in the package, group, and asset name if they are not already populated for your current workspace, then click OK. UT3 will automatically open the Material Editor.
3. Connect Textures in the Material Editor
• With your texture selected in the Generic Browser, go into the Material Editor and left-click anywhere on the graph while holding the T key to drop a Texture Sample node. Alternatively, drag a Texture Sample from the right-hand node menu. • Link your texture to the Material's input pins (such as Diffuse, Specular, or Normal) by clicking and dragging from the green arrow/output pin of your texture node to the corresponding input on the main Material node. • Click Apply and save your material package.
4. Assign the Material to a Mesh
• Double-click your static mesh or skeletal mesh in the Generic Browser to open its properties window. • Look for the Mesh tab or Materials array section. • Select your newly created material in the Generic Browser, then click the green arrow or assignment button next to the mesh's material slot to apply it.
