Welcome Mat versus Vampire

Tricky. I could go either way with this.

Yes: the mat bears the symbols, the symbols bear the intent. Printed word is equivalent to spoken word. Intention is everything.

No: the words "Welcome" do not express permission, only good-will.

No: printed words do not carry the force of spoken words. Reasoning: What matters is the deed. In speaking, the deed is speaking. In mat-making, the deed is mat-making. Once the mat is made, the deed is done. A welcome mat only expresses permission during the final moments of the mat's construction.

Yes. Vampires are worse than Lawyers when it comes to out-thinking mortals. If you are so rash as to put out a Welcome mat during a Time of Vampires, you have only yourself to drain.

Intent

Only people, and never objects, have intention.

I will here mention, since it comes to mind, although it touches on contentious topics which I do not care to pursue in this thread (or anywhere else), the idea that "bullets don't kill people".
