George Beck: October 26, 1940
Snowing like hell and terribly cold. Working from six o’clock in a morning till six at night. In spite of weather and regardless of little clothing we have to carry on. Very little rumours. We all seem to be acting like savages through hunger. Stealing going off all over.
—George Beck,1st Battalion The Duke of Wellington's Regiment, prisoner of war (diary)
