Ken Gow: October 17, 1918
Dear Friend,
I am commanding the company, Walter. Just think, I am the last officer left of five [of us who served together on the Mexican border]. It is an odd feeling to watch them go one by one until you are the left. It makes one feel as though his time is coming with the sureness of death ...
- Letter - Lt. Ken Gow, 27th Division. Lt. Gow was killed early the next day, leading his company in an attack.
George Beck: October 16, 1943
Been off work for the last five days with my fingers, on top of this I had three boils and a eye bad, roll on, everything seems to come together. On Monday we lose our guard, he's been very good to us and with him goes the wireless. Wonder what Alice is doing now at this moment, I can’t ever imagine going back to England and settling down at all. Russians still pushing on. Out in Italy things are slow.
