David Quast: March 31, 1967

Out the door I went, the whole sky was filled with 'chutes, only once in my 26 jumps had I even encountered anything of such magnitude as this. Parachutes were everywhere, it seemed like it was an attempt to blot out the sun. Wave after wave of planes kept coming over, I could hear occasional firing, but could not tell from where or in what direction it was going. It seemed like it took forever to get to the ground from half the altitude that we did at Bragg. Once I was down I didn't waste any time getting my rifle and equipment together and got out of the DZ to where I saw the smoke. I could hear the occasional crack of rifle fire and once in a while the return fire of M-16's when they managed to find the sniper.
