Unreal Tournament 3 packages

MyLevel

MyLevel is a hardcoded, magic keyword used as a package name in Unreal Editor 3.Any asset (textures, materials, sounds, static meshes) imported or created inside a package named exactly MyLevel will be embedded directly into the map file (.ut3 / .udk) rather than an external content package file (.upk) [].🚀 Key BenefitsSingle-File Distribution: It bakes custom assets directly into the map file.

No Missing Content: Players only need to download the map file to see and hear your custom assets. This avoids the common "missing asset package" crash.

Perfect for Unique Assets: Ideal for map-specific assets like Render Targets, custom scoreboard textures, or localized audio logs.

Critical Traps & Quirks to Remember

The Invisible Package: The MyLevel package will not appear in the Generic Browser list when you first open a map []. It only reveals itself after you successfully create or import an asset into it [].

The Ghost Asterisk (*) UI Bug: When you use File -> Save or Save All, the editor safely bakes the assets into your map file. However, the Generic Browser often fails to clear the modified asterisk (*) next to MyLevel. This is a visual bug. Closing and reopening the map confirms the data is safe.

The Exit Prompt Trap: Never save MyLevel.upk if the editor prompts you to do so upon closing or saving. Always cancel the .upk save prompt or uncheck MyLevel from the exit list [].

Only save the map file itself []. Forcing a MyLevel.upk file can corrupt asset references and crash the map.
