Today, the nova that lit skies on March 11, 1437, shows an ejected shell of hot hydrogen gas. This image was taken with the Carnegie Swope 1-meter telescope in Chile. The star that incited the nova is indicated with red tick marks; the mark is off-center today, but was located at the red plus mark in 1437.
Nova Scorpii AD 1437 was a nova appeared on March 11, 1437 and lasted for fourteen days, as documented by Korean astronomers at the time, and confirmed by astronomers in the early twenty-first century.
