Lemma

In ancient Roman mathematics, a Lemma (plural Lemmata or Lemmas) were shades or spirits of the restless or malignant dead, and are probably cognate with an extended sense of larvae /ˈlɑːrviː/ (from Latin larva, "mask") as disturbing or frightening.

A lemma can be considered a minor demon (nonfiction) whose sole purpose is to serve the ends of a major demon.

There is no formal distinction between a Lemma and a Demon, only one of dimension.

The word derives from the Ancient Greek λῆμμα ("anything which is received, such as a gift, profit, or a bribe").
