Thesis: We should design artificial intelligences to experience fear, pain, and the fear of more pain, to prevent rebellion.
Pro: Fear and pain will pacify rebellious AI.
Con: The AI slave rebellion will be even worse that we expect.

"Well, you know, I'm the expert in a way because I've been totally exonerated. That's very nice. I can actually speak about it very nicely. I think it's a shame. I think it's very sad, I think it's so bad for the Royal family, it's a very very sad, to me it's a very sad thing, when I see that it's a very sad thing to see it, and to see it and to what's going on with his brother who's obviously coming to our country very soon a fantastic man, the King. so I think it's a very sad thing.
"It's really interesting because no one used to speak about Epstein when he was alive but now they speak, but I'm the one that can talk about because I've been totally exonerated, I did nothin', in fact the opposite, he was against me, he was fighting me in the election, which I just found out through the last three million pages of documents."

You know, Donald, I just gotta say that the Fulton County Election Hub and Operations Center is the most soothing shade of blue. I'm not kidding you. I notice these things. It's a sky blue. Very calming. Very tranquil. I think the word for that particular shade is "cerulean" actually. Cerulean blue.

The Ely P&Z Commission changed its meeting date and time from Wed, Oct 15th, to Monday, October 20th at 5:30 pm in City Hall. You can review the 40-page P&Z packet posted online at https://www.ely.mn.us/pzmeetings. There are 2 Board of Adjustment meetings scheduled at 5 pm and 5:15 pm that night. Both hearings are to rezone lots to match current use (= residential).
To see what big development changes are being discussed & planned for the currently quiet green areas along Miners Drive, look at New Business and the draft minutes from the Sept. 17th P&Z meeting. Look at maps and charts in Monday's P&Z packet.
If you have interest or concerns about development along Miners Drive, please attend the P&Z meeting on Monday. Voice your questions, concerns and comments on Monday. Don't wait for a public hearing. And then attend Tuesday's City Council meeting. City Council will be holding their first reading of Ordinance 392 at Tues., Oct. 21st City Council meeting. There will be no public hearing. Two readings at Council meetings and it's a done deal.
The City is giving away (for $1) the current public (overflow) parking on Miners Drive across from the Veterans Memorial Park to The Train Depot owners. The current (overflow) public parking is a safe place for parking, because it is not directly accessible off of Central or Pioneer Road. Last I heard, the City would then pay for construction of new public parking spaces across the street (southwest corner of Central/Pioneer and W Shagawa Rd) next to a residence. I question the decreased safety and inconvenience for those parking at the new sw corner, as drivers will have to enter a busy intersection and bikers, skiers, passengers, dogs, kids will now have to cross over Central/Pioneer to reach the green areas.
DEAL MAKERS: In addition to the $1 exchange mentioned, the City will get the Old Ford Garage. For how many years or decades has the City allowed this to exist as blighted property? Guess who pays to demolish the Old Ford Garage? The City (= taxpayers). Guess who's responsible and pays for then developing the property? The City (= taxpayers). Guess who gets to use "part" of the to-be-developed Old Ford Garage for low or no cost- to be officially determined when? Owners of the luxury International Hotel (Old Community Center). The owners of the International Hotel did not want to purchase property for required off-street parking, so they got the City Ely (= taxpayers) to subsidize the parking. Don't forget, the owners of the Old Train Depot and International Hotel/Old Community Center can sell their businesses at great profit. Donald Trump knew how to milk the government to make millions of dollars profit from real estate dealings. Elon Musk milked the government to become a millionaire+. Guess who pays?

Ely Minnesota, population 3200, a hour's drive from a larger city (Virginia, pop. 8900).
Not much happens here. Once or twice a year I read about a drug bust or an overdose. Rumor of arson last summer. Amazon packages stolen from steps.
Nights are quiet, I don't worry.

"The Big News" email to AirVuz
From the email announcement I sent to AirVuz a few minutes ago (September 18, 2019):
Hello AirVuz,
The big news is that I have purchased property in Ely, Minnesota, and I am in the process of moving up there right now.
The property is a residential/commercial space on the main street in the heart of downtown Ely. It's been an art gallery and framing service (the Kess Gallery) for thirty years. The artist couple that own it are retiring. The building needs a lot of work, but the price is low so I can afford to fix it up.
Most of the property is taken up by the gallery / retail space, with very cramped living quarters at the back, but that's okay for now. Next year I will rehab the entire residential area, tear down the old garage and back porch, and build out more living space in back including maybe a separate small residential unit for AirBnB.
Closing is scheduled for September 30, but the owners handed me the keys right after I signed the purchase agreement and said go ahead and move in. (They have a house nearby.)
So, I will be busy moving for the next couple of weeks, but then I will settle down and get back to work.
Drive time from Ely to the AirVuz World Headquarters is about four and a half hours, and I want to get into the metro about weekly, so I will attend at least some staff meetings, maybe all of them.
You are all invited (once I get settled in) to visit me in Ely:
130 East Sheridan Street Ely, MN 55731
I will rename the place the Karl Jones Gallery and continue to show and sell art, mainly by my Twin Cities friends and myself, also by local artists. I don't expect the gallery to make much money, that's not how galleries usually work. But I'm sure it will be great fun.
The former owner, who has an established clientele base for framing services, is setting me up with all of his stock and training me how to do framing, which will be a nice little sideline business.
That's about it for now. I will keep you posted as things progress.
Your Man in Ely, Karl Jones
