The Bodleian Libraries at Oxford University announce the discovery of the earliest recorded usage of a zero, marking a historical turning point in mathematics and society.

The Bakhshali Manuscript is a mathematical manuscript written on birch bark which was found near the village of Bakhshali (present day Pakistan) in 1881.

It is notable for being "the oldest extant manuscript in Indian mathematics."
