Appalling and horrific behavior

When I read about appalling or horrific behavior, I usually don't say "I don't understand how anyone could do [horrible thing]."
I think I understand people well enough.
Evil is not that difficult to understand.
You just have to face up to it boldly and not shy away from monsters.
