Software developer and APTO consulting fabulist Karl Jones detected the existence of E-Lope, and decrypted several of its header packets, in a Post on Twitter on the afternoon of Thursday, 21 January 2021.

Jones later acknowledged that he "sensed E-Lope's presence" immediately after reading a post on Twitter by user Saint Brian The Godless, which reads in full:

you'd have to marry him I guess

because you can't elope, after all
