Raising one's voice is an important life skill.

It was difficult for me for several decades.

But with much effort I survived my self-consciousness.

Now I can give hearty impromptu toasts at wedding receptions, shout insults at drunks in pubs — whatever it takes.

Follow up

That last item, I exaggerated.

First, here in the US, we have bars, not pubs.

Second, I'm not much a drinker.

Third, I don't shout insults at drunks or anyone else. It's a bad idea, and out of character for me.

But I'm confident that I *could* shout insults *if I had to*.
