I find myself responding to statements like "Slave owners used the Bible to justify slavery" with "It was Christians who abolished slavery".
It makes a sad political divide. Peacenik Christians are the natural allies of peacenik atheists — but only if they accept each other.
Commentary
Although I identify as a secular, and not a Christian, I find myself defending Christians and Christianity fairly often, in conversation with my reflexively anti-Christian friends.
Not bad people, mind you. Liberal-minded. But loud and angry about denouncing Christianity.
