Summary

Casu martzu

Casu martzu (Sardinian: [ˈkazu ˈmaɾtsu]; lit. 'rotten cheese'), sometimes spelled casu marzu, and also called casu modde, casu cundídu, and casu fràzigu in Sardinian, is a Sardinian sheep milk cheese that contains live insect larvae (maggots).

Casu marzu maggots can jump up to 6 inches when disturbed, so it is important to protect your eyes and cover the cheese.
