Clock Head
Clock Head (Clock-Head, Clock-Face, etc.) is a mechanical soldier, secretly designed and built by engineer and crime-fighter Leonardo da Vinci.
After da Vinci's mysterious disappearance, Clock Head survived by serving in mercenary armies, eventually reaching North America during the Revolutionary War. Persuaded by the arguments of Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin, Clock Head swore allegiance to the American cause and fought with distinction.
After the war Clock Head drifted West, eventually co-founding the 1800s-era town of Periphery.
Clock Head designed and built an updated version of itself, the mechanical engineer Clock Head 2, better adapted for the industrial age.
