Odd contractions
Is there a word or a phrase that describes the linguistic condition where the use of a contraction in a phrase makes sense and sounds normal, yet replacing the contraction with the root words somehow sounds very odd.
- "Don't you dare” vs. “Do not you dare”
- "Won't you come with me?" vs. “Will not you come with me?”
- "Shouldn't you be doing something else right now?" vs. “Should not you be doing something else right now?”
- "Can't you just listen?" vs. “Can not you just listen?”

Donald Trump is a sick old man
Trump was never self-reflective, never an intellectual of any kind. He was a self-indulgent rich party boy.
Then he got older, and age, perhaps exacerbated by self-indulgence, took its natural toll of his physical and mental health.
Then he was elected to the Presidency — a job notorious for crushing the health and spirit of the strongest of men and women.
Donald Trump is now a sick old man, half senile, half living a fantasy scripted by his handlers.
Weep for America. It has come to this.
