I probably said it in a blog post, likely Boing Boing, sometime in the 2010 - 2015 range. I liked it right away, stored it in near-short-term memory for ready quipping.

Variations

Jones has used alternate forms of the phrase, typically "My ancestors didn't fight in the Enlightenment" followed by a clause improvised for the occasion.
