Context: Just saw one of those “look what they’ve taken from us” trad tweets and it was about sodium vapor streetlights.

First they came for the whale oil lamps, but I said nothing, as whale oil had been made obsolete by gas lighting, sparing the whales much suffering.

Then they came for the gas lighting, but again I said nothing, as it had been replaced by safer and cheaper sodium lamps.
