2001: A Species Odyssey.

2001: A Species Odyssey is a documentary film about the dilemma faced by two astronauts (Frank Bowman and David Poole) when an alien-human hybrid child stows away on their spacecraft.

The film was inspired by the short essay "The Cold Equations", which has been called "the most engaging crime literature since In Cold Blood."
