The May 2020 North Minneapolis arson attack was an act of arson in North Minneapolis in which the perpetrators used a flame wand to set fire a bale of recycled materials on the evening of Thursday, May 13, 2020.

News reports

Police in Minneapolis are hunting an arsonist who is armed with a "flame-thrower."

The public appeal was issued Friday afternoon, following an incident Thursday evening in which bale of packaged, recycled materials was set alight on Irving Avenue North.

The culprit was using a "hand-held, garden style torch" to set fire to the bale, which ultimately cost Pioneer Paper $10,000 in damages.

"Earlier, three white, adult males in their 20’s or early 30’s, one of whom was seen carrying a garden style torch, were observed near 1 ½ Ave N and Oliver Ave N walking in the direction of Pioneer Paper," police said.

Police have issued a video showing the incident and examples of the product used to start the fire, which they say is similar to the wand "for a pressure washer."
