It is distinguished from other of ''Bovinae'' by two pairs of strong, transparent wings.  Much of the year, these are used mainly for short bursts of flight, such as jumping across canyons or engaging in courtship displays.  During the migratory season, swarms of flying bison may remain in the air for days at a time.

Flying bison.

The flying bison is a large, even-toed ungulate in the genus Bison within the subfamily Bovinae.

It is distinguished from other of Bovinae by two pairs of strong, transparent wings. Much of the year, these are used mainly for short bursts of flight, such as jumping across canyons or engaging in courtship displays. During the migratory season, swarms of flying bison may remain in the air for days at a time.
