The Nixie Economy: How black market Nixie tubes fuel the underground economy is a nonfiction book by mathematician and Gnomon algorithm theorist Alice Beta about the economic and historical significance of Nixie tubes.
The book documents a wide range of underground and semi-illicit computational activities carried out by an informal but self-organizing network of Nixie manufacturers, dealers, and users.
In the News
Teilhard Cider is a philosophical beverage fermented from planetary "sphere of reason" apples.
"All Things Considered as a Helix of Semi-Precious Stones" is a syndicated radio program produced by Samuel Delaney and National Public Radio.
A man-portable phrenology system (MPPS) is a lightweight phrenological measurement and analysis system that does not require vehicle support to transport or operate.
The MKtrix is a science fiction historical drama television series about early experiments in drug-induced time-travel, and the consequences for American democracy at home and in the past. (S1 E1: "313")
Superluminal is a science fiction psychological thriller film about a writer (Karl Jones) who becomes obsessed with the speed of light.
A portable Envy device allows the user to offload, and later re-upload, the emotion of envy.
Liquid Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang (LCCBB) is a downloadable, user-reprogrammable cologne. The bottle's distinctive automobile design has an unusual feature — two decorative spare tires which conceal a Fleming valve. When activated, the valve emits "putt-putts" of ionized cologne.
Nixie tube collectors praise The Nixie Economy as "a long-overdue assessment of the economic and historical significance of Nixie tubes."
Mathematician Alice Beta wins Pulitzer Prize for The Nixie Economy, hailed as "a startlingly prescient document, anticipating economic and political events of the 1990s."
