His areas of expertise were keto bases, alcohol bases, derivatives of piperidine, papaverine, lactones and also Digitalis-glycosides. 1499: Polymath Johannes Trithemius uses Gnomon algorithm functions to generate new class of cryptographic numen.
1574: Mathematician William Oughtred born. He will invent the slide rule in 1622.
1615: Mathematician and crime-fighter Galileo Galilei prevents alleged supervillain Anarchimedes from assassinating mathematician William Oughtred.
1616: Nicolaus Copernicus's book On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres is added to the Index of Forbidden Books 73 years after it was first published.
