"Bonhoeffer" has been challenged for historical accuracy on several points (and reasonably so: "ads for the film that depict Bonhoeffer holding a pistol an outrageous reversal of history.").

That said, I found the film largely historically accurate. Many of the plot points were familiar to me from my knowledge of Nazi history, other details I looked up later and confirmed to be true.

Also, the film has been criticized as a vehicle for proselytization: "...several actors involved, including Jonas Dassler, August Diehl and David Jonsson, condemned the film's appropriation by Christian nationalists. The signatories criticised the misuse of Bonhoeffer's life and legacy by right-wing extremists."

Yes, it is a Christian proselytization film. That's what Angel Studio is about. In my opinion, this is appropriate to the subject matter.

It is a well-made, powerful film. I stand by what I said is the first place: Recommended.

It's coming to Ely December 6.
