Origin
The diary entry was discovered by amateur gnomon algorithm theorist Karl Jones on July 7, 2020, while writing comments on Facebook.
Repurpose a Dystopia Challenge
After writing Dear Diary (Death Star edition), Jones was inspired to use it as an example of repurposing a dystopia.
In the News
"The United States is larger than the Death Star but smaller than the Earth" is rated "plausible" by the Ayn Rand Memorial Death Star Kickstarter Campaign Committee.
July 8, 2020: "Dear Diary, HAL 9000 purchased after much computational haggling. I shall repurpose it as a jukebox."
