The Patrick Device is a scrying engine.
The device was invented by Patrick Ladwig (nonfiction) to help Havelock visualize the consequences of his (Havelock's, not Patrick's) actions.
The device is presumed to use some form of the Gnomon algorithm, although this has not been investigated to date (May 2016).
