"God Bless the Child" is a short poem by Karl Jones.

God Bless the American

When the Somali people began moving to the Twin Cities

I heard complaints that "They come here poor but they all drive new cars"

And indeed I saw a small number of very nice SUV's driven by these new Americans

These new American pool their resources and act collectively, for the good of the family and village

Pity us old Americans, chasing a chicken in every pot and an SUV in every garage

God Bless the American who's got his own, he's got his own

(Apologies to Billie Holiday.)
