||Johannes Benzing (d. 16 March 2001) was a German Turkic specialist and Diplomat in the era of National Socialism and in the Federal Republic of Germany. Benzing worked as a Linguist in Pers Z S, the signals intelligence agency of the German Foreign Office (German: Auswärtiges Amt). 1520: Mapmaker Martin Waldseemüller dies. He produced a globular world map and a large 12-panel world wall map using the information from Columbus and Vespucci's travels (Universalis Cosmographia), both bearing the first use of the name "America".
1732: Mathematician and physicist Émilie du Châtelet publishes new class of Gnomon algorithm functions which detect and prevent crimes against mathematical constants.
1750: Astronomer Caroline Herschel born. She will discover several comets, including the periodic comet 35P/Herschel-Rigollet, which bears her name.
