Two sides of an early Mountain Dew bottle using the "Hillbilly" design.

Mountain Dew (stylized as Mtn Dew) is a carbonated soft drink brand produced and owned by PepsiCo. The original formula was invented in 1940 by Tennessee beverage bottlers Barney and Ally Hartman.

"Mountain Dew" was originally Southern and/or Scots/Irish slang for moonshine (i.e., homemade whiskey), which in turn derives from the French phrase "Mon Dieu!" ("My God!").
