Richard Friske infogram

Richard Friske (June 16, 1923 – June 17, 2002) - Michigan politician.

• Enlisted in the Luftwaffe during World War II. He later denied any support of Nazism.

• Emigrated to the United States in 1952, settled in the Midwest.

• Served as a campaign organizer for George Wallace’s presidential campaign in 1968. After appearing on a local Traverse City television station to promote Wallace, he was recruited by the far-right John Birch Society.

• Elected to the Michigan House of Reps (November 3, 1970), Republican Party. In his campaign literature, Friske claimed to be a World War II veteran, failing to reveal he had served as a German soldier fighting for the Third Reich.

• Spoke of the need to "curb the growth of the drone population that weakens our society".

• Accused Governor William Milliken of complicity in an "international satanic conspiracy planned for this nation and the world."

• Donated $1,000 to the Ku Klux Klan's former Grand Wizard David Duke's campaign in the 1999 Louisiana's 1st congressional district special election.
