George S. Patton: May 18, 1917
I had been riding at Mr. Rice's Topefield Mass and on returning to Pride's found a wire from the Adjutant General directing me to procede to Washington at once and report to General Pershing.
Telephoned papa at Washington me could say nothing definite over the phone but told me to come at once and to bring Beatrice. We caught the twelve thirty driving up with Kay & Keith in our new machine.
