Earliest known edition of The Subletting of Hill House.

The Subletting of Hill House is a 1959 property management horror novel by American author Shirley Jackson. The story relies on contract negotiation and litigation proceedings rather than horror to elicit emotion in the reader, using complex relationships between the tenants, subtenants, sub-sub-tenants, and so on.
